Ques

Sorry for the ignorance but do these things work on all Type 1's ie swing axle & IRS the same ???

Am very interested, even though Herb generally only can spin the wheels on wet grass.

Peter, yes it will work on swing as well as IRS........................you would be suprised at how much the forks flex even in a standard beetle, this will stop it. :tu:

I have asked before, but do you fellas know of any first hand experience of these things in an Offroad veicle either a Baja or Buggy...

Im thinking they could be helpful in the soft stuff like sand ect, but would they hold up. Though knowing me ill never get a chance to get off road.

Oh by the way they look great!!

This kit will help with stopping the gearbox forks from flexing, this will most certainly occur in offroading.

And yes they will "hold up" with no problems :tu:

I will be fitting this kit to my buggy.

Also intersted does the cradle pictured raise the trans at all? Or could you make one that does raise the trans as much as possible without cutting/altering body and then would the kafer bars still fit?
How much is the cradle as pictured.
Very nice set up ;)

Hi Craig

Just wondering whether you had a chance to figure out a setup that would fit into a 54 oval?
The five bar is my preference.

cheers

yep, second batch is now ready.

I have had some changes made to the kit and will post some more photo's in the next day or so.

Marcus, yep it will fit a 54 beetle.

As for the cradle question, the new kits have tabs that you weld to the forks (front and rear braces) so ANY cradle could be used. You could also weld the tabs to your own cradle if you wish.

The cradle pictured locates the gearbox in its original position, and is solid mounted. The cradle sells for $100 as a complete gearbox strap/cradle kit, with mid section strap as well.

Cheers

mmmm

Well I found a few spare minutes today to fit up one of Craig's 5 bar setups. This is in a 75 L Bug.

Went in without a hassle, everything fitted fine and the only thing I did differently was welded the rear tab to the cross member rather than the frame horn.

As luck would have it the supplied tabs fitted this application perfectly.

http://www.manxgallery.org/gallery/albums/BradBeetle/IMG_6328.sized.jpg

Out of 10 I would have to give it 10 at this stage. It was shipped fast, packed well and supplied as specified. Fitted perfectly and the quality is very good. Even with it just tacked in place it stiffens up the rear end.

Hi Brad

Looks good. Why did you keep the stock L bug mounts? They are crap, its an easy conversion to fit an earlier mount frame.
